Political Views!

One thing about me that everyone should know is that I am a very, very political person and have views on a ton of different things from abortion to the election of 2000 to the war in Iraq and so forth and so on.  This will become blatantly obvious in some of my rants that I will be putting up when they strike me.  I'll start off by saying that I am very liberal in my thinking and that I am a registered Democrat.  Take that for what you will as you read my stuff.  I know that some of my views are exactly popular and I know that conservatives are waiting on people like me to try to bash them and make them look like complete idiots.  I also know that I have a right to express my views and so does everyone else.  I dont go out and completely bash the other side over their choice...hell, I could always use an opponent for a debate.  Anyways, this is who I am, this is what I believe on the following issues and you're really not going to change that....so enjoy and feedback is always welcome via my contact info on the bars to the left...

First thing that comes to mind in a huge political debate is the issue of abortion.  I, of course, am Pro-Choice on the issue.  Now, I really dont get the huge debate over this whole thing.  Do I believe that every woman should go out and have an abortion?  No, not at all.  In fact, I dont agree with abortion as a birth control method or anything like that.  I do, however, believe in a woman's choice to have an abortion if she so desires.  Its a privacy issue and not one that everyone should have to deal with.  I personally believe in abortion on in the cases of rape, incest, or possible harm to the mother.  But I'll be damned if the choice isnt there for an abortion during other times as well.  So, as I said, Pro-Choice all the way...

Now on to gun control.  Now, I know a lot of people believe that the right to own a gun is constitutionally protected...and they are right, kinda.  The Constitution states , and I quote, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."  Now, I dont know about any of you, but I dont see any state regulated militias still in existance at this point and especially not one that is required to keep the free state.  There hasnt been a war on American soil since the Civil War.  Sure, there was an attack at Pearl Harbor, but stick with me here.  The popular phrase is that "guns dont kill people, people kill people."  Well, would those people be able to kill without the guns?  Chances are, not nearly as easily and the murder rate in the nation would drop to microscopic levels.

Next on my list of things here is welfare.  Now, should there be limits on welfare?  Of course there should...not everyone should be able to just sit on their asses and get paid for it.  But, in all actuality, the face of welfare is quite different than what most people believe.  When you think welfare, you think a black woman with 10 kids who doesnt work, just collects checks.  In reality, the typical welfare recipient is a white male.  Fooled ya there, didnt they?  In reality, some people need the help at times...especially with the economy the way it is.  The cases of welfare fraud are usually completely overstated and in reality welfare can do a lot of good.  Now, should the person be looking for a job?  Of course they should...it only makes sense to want to work and many welfare people do.  But we all need some help and I'm more than willing to pitch in a few cents off of my paychecks to help out.

Next up, nationalized health care.  Count me in as a very big backer of this.  Since turning 18 and having to go to a real doctor, I've seen some of the reciepts that my insurance company has taken care of for me and you know what, without them, I would be shit out of luck.  Really, health care is damned expensive.  Now, imagine being one of the millions without insurance.  Imagine being one of the people that thinks they are covered for something very serious only to have a bill delivered to their house that they cant afford.  Imagine watching your child die because you cant get insurance for them.  This happens every day.  Health care has gone from helping people to being big business where you have to pay the big bucks or die.  We're really talking life and death here too.  Dont believe me?  Watch the movie John Q.  Sure, its only a movie, but that stuff happens.  I suggest we all chip in the small amount it would be and make sure we're all taken care of.

Ok, now on to religion in schools.  This is a hot little item from time to time that really has no place in politics, if you ask anyone who really knows.  Do you have the right to pray?  Yes, by all means do it if thats your thing.  Do you have the right to impose that prayer on to me?  No you dont. School prayer is an issue that should be cut and dry.  The Constitution says that there is no official religion of the United States and that there is a separation of church and state.  Public schools are state institution and therefore have no place enacting a morning prayer.  If you need to pray, do it on your own time, on your own, and make it non-disruptive to the learning process of others.  By endorsing one prayer for public schools, we therefore make on religion better than the rest, cancelling out religious freedom.  That shouldnt happen and I dont think it will anytime soon.

Well, thats all I have for right now...dont worry, the list will grow with time and be sure to check out my political rants in the archive section... .
